Google Starts Giving A Ranking Boost To Secure HTTPS/SSL Sites

Earlier in the year, Matt Cutts stated that an SSL “could” factor in Google’s ranking algorithm. Now, with the head of search spam on extended leave, is this actually happening and why now?

Google has announced that going HTTPS - adding an SSL 2048-bit key certificate on your site - will give you a minor ranking boost.

Recently, we asked the BHW community if a section for Cryptocurrency was needed. The question has sparked some serious discussion, with valid points raised on both side, but the votes are now officially in.

You can see the results of the poll, along with the thread that spawned the whole idea. Thank you for all of your contributions.

For those of you naysayers who would rather this hadn’t come to pass, there is some good news. All the Bitcoin/altcoin posts will be safely tucked away in an area of the site you never have to see. Hooray!

As for the majority who voted in favour of the new area, we will have the new section up and running as soon as possible, once we have agreed upon guidelines for what can and cannot be posted there.

There will also be plenty of information for those who are new to cryptocurrency or don’t quite understand the concept. So, hopefully, everyone wins.
